PolyCog vs credit-based AI aggregators (1min.AI, ChatPlayground)
All three put ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini and more in one place. The real difference is who pays for the AI underneath — and what that does to your access over time.
You→Credit wallet→AI providers
You→Shared quota→AI providers
You→AI providers, directly
Where the money goes: on 1min.AI and ChatPlayground your payment funds a credit wallet or a shared quota the platform spends at the providers; on PolyCog your keys pay the providers directly.
The short version
Credit-based lifetime deals resell AI usage the platform has to keep paying for, which creates a standing incentive to route you to cheaper models and tighter limits. PolyCog is BYOK — bring your own key — so your prompts hit the real APIs under your own account, at provider list prices, with nobody in the middle deciding which model you actually got. If you want image, audio and video generation or team seats, 1min.AI is the better fit. If you want verifiable frontier-model access that cannot be downgraded, that is us.
Where your money goes
The billing structure predicts the long-term behaviour of a platform better than any feature list.
1min.AI
Subscription from $6.50/mo (1M credits) · lifetime deals $24.97 (1M credits/mo) to $69.97 (4M credits/mo)
You→ Credit wallet→ AI providers
Every prompt draws credits from a wallet the platform funds. On a lifetime deal the platform pays the providers per use, forever, out of one payment. Its margin on you shrinks every month you keep using it.
ChatPlayground AI
AppSumo tiers from $59 (300 queries/mo) · "Unlimited" lifetime plan $55.30, subject to fair use
You→ Shared quota→ AI providers
"Unlimited messages" against metered APIs means a limit exists somewhere — the listing itself says subject to fair use policy and that the included models are subject to change. You can't see the throttle or the model swap.
PolyCog
BYOK · free tier, $10/mo, or $250 lifetime — for the interface only
You→ AI providers, directly
Your keys, your provider accounts, provider list prices. PolyCog never touches the AI bill, so it has no incentive to downgrade you and no way to.

Where they beat us
A comparison you can trust has to cut both ways.
Sticker price
Their lifetime deals are a fraction of ours. If your usage is light and you never need to verify which model answered, the arithmetic favours them — a $25 lifetime plan with a million credits a month is a lot of AI for the money while it lasts.
Multimodal creation
1min.AI does image, audio and video generation in one workspace, and ChatPlayground includes image generation. PolyCog is deliberately text-only. Different tool, different job.
Zero setup
Credits mean no API keys to create. BYOK asks for ten minutes of setup once — PolyCog walks you through it, but it's a real step, and it means a payment method on each provider you use.
Model breadth
ChatPlayground lists 30+ models including Perplexity, Llama and Mistral; 1min.AI adds Meta, Mistral and Cohere. PolyCog covers five providers' current flagships and nothing else, on purpose.
Common questions
Is a lifetime AI aggregator deal worth it?
It depends on who pays for the AI underneath. A one-time payment against per-use API costs that never stop only stays sustainable if the platform limits you — through credits, throttles, fair-use policies, or quietly cheaper models. A BYOK lifetime deal has no such tension: you are buying the interface for life, and the AI usage was always yours to pay, at list price, on your own account.
What does BYOK mean?
Bring Your Own Key. You paste API keys from OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, DeepSeek or xAI into PolyCog once. Every prompt runs against the real provider APIs under your own account, at the provider's published prices, and shows up in your own provider dashboards — so you can verify exactly which model answered and what it cost.
How much does BYOK usage actually cost?
Cents per session. A four-model round with a debate round and a flagship synthesis costs roughly ten cents at September 2026 list prices with everyday models, and about thirty-five cents if every seat is a flagship. Typical daily use lands between two and twenty dollars a month. PolyCog shows a cost estimate per session and lets you set a monthly cap.
Can I try PolyCog without API keys?
Yes. Sample mode runs on our shared keys with fast models (three prompts a day, no signup) so you can see the debate format before creating any keys.
Do credit platforms really downgrade models?
We cannot prove intent for any specific platform and we do not claim to. What is structural is the incentive: every prompt costs them real money against a one-time payment, routing is invisible to you, and cheaper models cut their loss per prompt. BYOK removes the incentive and the invisibility at the same time — the calls are in your own dashboard.
Which is better for a team?
1min.AI. Its Business plans include member management and up to twenty seats on the lifetime deal; ChatPlayground sells multi-seat tiers on AppSumo. PolyCog has no team seats yet — every account is one person with their own keys.
